IPL 2024 Series, Part 3: With the league's launch, T-20 competition accelerated; 80% of test results were released, and 12 ODI double hundreds were achieved.

More than 300 points have been scored 279 times in the first 37 years of ODI cricket. Furthermore, 614 times in the past 17 years, a score of 300 or higher has been achieved more than twice. The Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008, making this feasible 17 years ago. This league saw a sharp rise in batters' scoring rates.

The first double century in Men's ODI history was only achieved after the IPL; it now stands at 12. From 16 to 103 T-20 teams participated. Simultaneously, the test format gained attention, teams began emphasizing results over draws, and as a result, results are occurring in 80% of the matches.

We shall learn today in Part 3 of the IPL 2024 series how the IPL has affected the ODI, Test, and T-20 formats. Four aspects of this will be examined: the quantity of games, the scoring rate, the effect on batsmen, and the bowlers.

Effects of the IPL on the T-20 format

Section 1: There are now 280 matches throughout the year instead of 33.
Australia and New Zealand played the opening match of the T-20 International on February 17, 2005. Two years later, this format's World Cup was contested, and India won it led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The next year saw the launch of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the country's first cricket franchise competition. which altered cricket's definition.

Six years and seventeen countries participated in T-20 International until 2010. Teams played just 12 games on average every six years, with an average of 33 matches every year. Over the following six years, there were an average of sixty-three matches year and twenty-one teams. However, the true shift started in 2017. Teams participating in T-20 have multiplied five times to reach 103 since then. Additionally, the annual average of matches has risen to 280.

Numerous tiny nations, such as Nepal, Mongolia, and Jersey, began playing T-20 cricket. With this format, cricket is spreading throughout the world and will now be featured in the 2028 Summer Olympics. Together with the West Indies, a nation similar to the United States will host the 2024 T20 World Cup. where baseball, basketball, and rugby predominate.

It was easy to chase targets with 200+ runs.
The T-20 cricket scoring rate was also raised by the IPL. Up to 2010, teams aiming for more than 200 points only twice prevailed, with 200 or more being scored 19 times. During the past seven years, 243 people have achieved a score of 200 or higher. In addition, the team won 59% of the games in which more than 200 runs were scored in the second inning.

In cricket, it used to be a great deal to score 300 runs in 50 overs, but these days, it's only taken 20 overs to reach the milestone. Nepal broke the world record in the Asian Games of 2023, scoring 314 runs versus Mongolia. Even in ODI and Test forms, it is challenging to obtain a score like that.
Part Three: 19 centuries were scored in the first twelve years, and 124 in the last seven years। 19 international centuries were scored in the T-20 format during the twelve years from 2005 to 2016। Although scoring a century was also a big deal at that time, 124 centuries have been scored in this format over the past seven years। Glenn Maxwell and Rohit Sharma have each scored five centuries, while India's number one T-20 batsman Suryakumar Yadav has scored four centuries in the past three years।
