Swiss Open 2024: Kidambi Srikanth advances to the semifinals; Treesa-Gayatri pair is eliminated in the quarterfinals

In Basel, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss in the Swiss Open 2024 quarterfinals. The Indian women's doubles team lost in a hurried 35-minute match to Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu of Australia. The final score was 14-21, 15-21, with the Australian duo winning.
From the beginning, Mapasa and Yu were far stronger than Treesa and Gayatri, who struggled to keep up and eventually won easily. With this defeat, Treesa and Gayatri's competitive career in the women's doubles division comes to an end.

In the meantime, Kidambi Srikanth, the former world no. 1 player, demonstrated his strength in the men's singles division by defeating Chinese Taipei's Lee Chia Hao 21-10, 21-14. With his victory, Srikanth advanced to the Swiss Open 2024 and secured a semi-final berth.

Treesa and Gayatri are presently ranked 14th in the Olympic qualification rankings. Their chances of earning a spot in the forthcoming Paris Olympics later this year, however, are severely damaged by this loss. By the end of April, only two pairs who rank in the top 8 can advance to the doubles division. If not, the highest-ranked couple within the top 16 in the world will qualify for the Olympics.
