The political career of Sidhu
2004 saw Navjot Sidhu join the BJP. He was chosen as an Amritsar MP. He represented this seat in the Lok Sabha until 2014. In his place, the BJP nominated Arun Jaitley as its candidate from Amritsar in the same Lok Sabha elections. Sidhu left the BJP after being elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2016.

He joined Congress in 2017. He then won the Amritsar East seat election to become an MLA. The Captain government then appointed him as a minister. He did, however, have a falling out with Captain Amarinder Singh, the then-CM. He did not join when the Captain changed his ministry.

Sidhu disassociated himself from politics following this. Then, out of nowhere, he was appointed Punjab Congress chief by the Congress high command. Following that, Sidhu began a political coup and removed Captain Amarinder Singh from his position as chief minister.

Charanjit Channi was appointed Chief Minister by the Congress high command, however, rather than Sidhu. Siddhu then began to oppose Channi in the same way as the Captain did. In the elections of 2022, Sidhu lost the Amritsar East seat and Congress lost control of the government. Sidhu was subsequently relieved of his position as Punjab Congress chief as well.
