In two days, the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin. Since 2008, there have been 16 league seasons. These have seen the play of almost a thousand matches. Although new records are set annually, there are several records related to international cricket that have not yet been surpassed in this league.
In the IPL, no side has yet to score 300 or more in a single innings. Furthermore, not even six sixes were struck in a single over. Tell us more about these top-5 records in detail.
1. Nepal scored 300+ runs, the highest score.
In the 2013 match against Pune Warriors, Bengaluru scored the most ever IPL point. Bengaluru had then amassed 263 runs off five wickets. In international matches thus far, three scores greater than this have been achieved. For the first time in T20 international history, Nepal scored 300 or more against Mongolia in 2023. But after IPL 2023, this record was made.
Prior to IPL 2023, Afghanistan's score versus Ireland in 2019 was the greatest (278/3). Hazratullah Zazai scored 162 runs in this game with the aid of 16 sixes. This hasn't broken yet either.
Double hat-trick: No player has ever taken a double hat-trick in the Indian Premier League (IPL), although they have done so four times in the International T-20 format. A double hat-trick is when you take four wickets on four balls at the same time. There have been four instances of this in international T20 cricket. This achievement was made in 2019 by Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka, in 2019 by Rashid Khan of Afghanistan, in 2021 by Curtis Camper of Ireland, and in 2022 by Jason Holder of the West Indies. In the IPL, nobody has yet broken this record.
Test Half Century: In 2023, Yashasvi trailed by one ball.
Yuvraj smacked six sixes in an over against England during the 2007 T20 World Cup. In just 12 balls, he reached his half-century, setting a new world record. Neither the IPL nor the international circuit has broken this record.
But Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener for the Rajasthan Royals last season, was just one ball short of tying the mark and two balls shy of shattering it. Jaiswal hit fifty runs in thirteen balls on May 11, 2023, against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Greatest Bond: IPL Couple 29 Runs Apart
When RCB's Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers faced the Gujarat Lions in the 2016 Indian Premier League, their combination was the strongest. They had added 229 runs between them. In international cricket, partnerships over 229 runs have occurred twice.
In 2019, Usman Ghani of Afghanistan and Hazratullah Zazai of Afghanistan shared 236 runs against Ireland. On February 15, 2024, two Japanese batters combined for an undefeated 258 runs against China at the same time.
Six sixes in an over: No batter has struck six sixes in an over during the two international T-20 matches in the Indian Premier League. Twice in international T-20 cricket, this has occurred. In international matches of this format, Kieron Pollard of the West Indies and Yuvraj Singh of India have done this.
IPL is still lagging International T-20: 300+ score not even made yet, six sixes not hit in an over
