Today in Chennai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the Khelo India Youth Games 2023. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin will be among the dignitaries attending the inauguration, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is ready for the occasion.
The state administration announced that 5,500 athletes are expected to compete in 26 different sports from January 19 to January 31. The goal is to repeat the 44th Chennai Chess Olympiad's triumph in 2022.
In the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Governor R.N. Ravi, the Prime Minister will formally open the games. The event will also feature Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur, and Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu Udayanidhi Stalin.
There will be competitions in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore, and Madurai for a variety of sports, including football, kabaddi, volleyball, Judo, weightlifting, squash, archery, boxing, badminton, table tennis, cycling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, shooting, yoga, and wrestling.
The addition of Tamil Nadu's traditional sport, silambam, as a showcase sport is a noteworthy first for the Khelo India Youth Games. More than 1,200 volunteers and more than 1,000 referees are anticipated for the tournament.
A unique mobile app for the Khelo India Youth Games was released on January 29 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The app will make it simple for participating athletes, coaches, support staff, parents, and authorities from all states to obtain information on the events. This is the first time the games have had a specific app released," the ministry said.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, the leader of the DMK and a minister for Tamil Nadu, said on January 4 that the "Khelo India Youth Games 2023 would be another promising opportunity to showcase Tamil Nadu's excellent organizing capabilities and illustrious history in the field of sports."
