Kochi: On Saturday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress, criticized the Narendra Modi administration on a number of subjects, such as the farmers' demonstrations and the repeal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He declared, "In this 'new' nation, laws are made and imposed on the people against their will, circumventing the democratic process." For months, thousands of farmers demonstrated; some of them lost their lives, others were labeled terrorists and anti-nationalists, but they persisted in their protests. Priyanka was speaking at a rally in Kerala's Thrissur.
It is significant that three agricultural regulations proposed by the Modi administration were approved by Parliament in 2020. A portion of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh staged a year-long protest by camping at the borders near Delhi in response to the agricultural laws' passage. In his speech to the nation in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared his intention to remove the three farm laws. In addition to mentioning the deletion of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Vadra stated at the Thrissur rally that "their voices remain unheard in this 'new' nation unless the government repeals the laws due to the upcoming elections." She is not compelled to comply. In this 'new' country, a whole state is cut off from phone and internet access for several months. In Ladakh, thousands of people are participating in a hunger strike to demand their rights.
We would like to inform you that Kerala, which has 20 Members of Parliament, will cast votes on April 26 in the second round of the Lok Sabha elections. The Left Front, led by the CPIM, and the Congress are directly competing in the state, even though both parties are part of the opposition alliance in India. Rahul Gandhi is running for the seat he won in 2019—Wayanad. The Congress party secured fifteen seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections; its ally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), secured two seats; the Revolutionary Socialist Party, one seat; and Kerala Congress (M), one seat. In Alappuzha, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) secured one seat.
