SP is accused by Mayawati of undermining the SC-ST reservation.

Lucknow: BSP President Mayawati accused the SP of hurting the interests of the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) people by purportedly opposing reservation while addressing at an electoral rally in Meerut. Mayawati accused the SP, which is a member of the India alliance, of impeding the fulfillment of the government's plan to reserve jobs for tribals and Dalits. Recalling that the SP abolished reservation in promotion during its rule in Uttar Pradesh, she cautioned voters not to back the party, claiming that they are trying to do the same for the SC-ST categories.

Mayawati accused the SP of tearing up the law in Parliament when it came to their opposition to a bill she brought to the Rajya Sabha to guarantee effective reservation in promotion. She underlined that the interests of oppressed Dalits would suffer if the SP were supported. Furthermore, Mayawati restated her pledge to split Uttar Pradesh into two states, with an emphasis on the western part. She emphasized that the BSP would keep its pledge to partition the state into Purvanchal, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Bundelkhand if it were elected to power. She reminded the audience of her government's proposal to do just that.

In addition, Mayawati asked voters to support BSP candidate Devvrat Kumar Tyagi in the second round of the Meerut Lok Sabha seat election, which is set for April 26. The BSP head underlined the need of endorsing BSP candidates in order to protect the interests of SC-ST people and reaffirmed her commitment to addressing their problems.
