Imphal: Manipur truck drivers have begun a "steering wheel-down strike" in protest of the recent uptick in terrorist attacks on oil tankers. In response to these instances, they are calling for stricter measures to be taken and are requesting more protection for their cars.

The Malom Oil Depot in Imphal hosted a sit-in protest to start the protest, which is planned to go on until the drivers' requests are fulfilled.

Since miscreants regularly attack and loot drivers on the highways, the drivers have brought attention to the critical need for sufficient security. Furthermore, they are requesting payment for drivers hurt in a recent attack that happened on April 16.

It is anticipated that around 800 drivers of trucks transporting necessities, such as petroleum products, from outside the state will participate in the steering wheel-down strike.

The state's commodity prices may be impacted by the truck drivers' walkout, which is expected to have a big effect on the local economy.
