The Indian Premier League's (IPL) 17th season will officially begin today. With several players returning and several captains being rearranged, this season is unique in a lot of ways. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will play their first game on the Chennai field today.
The toss will take place at 7:30 p.m., and the game will begin at 8 p.m. at Chepauk Stadium. The match will begin at 8:00 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. because of the IPL opening ceremony that will take place before to the game.
The eighth time that the CSK squad will play the opening game of an IPL season. This is the eighth time the squad has done it. The group has competed in ten finals and has five times taken home the trophy. On the other hand, after 16 seasons and three final appearances, RCB has yet to win a championship. Out of eight games, the club has only been able to defeat Chennai in one.
Gaikwad would assume captaincy once Dhoni steps down.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni resigned from the CSK captaincy prior to the first game. Young Rituraj Gaikwad has been appointed the new captain in his place. It is quite evident from franchise CEO Kashi Vishwanathan that Dhoni will continue to be a member of the team.
Bengaluru has been ruled by Chennai.
Although CSK has been the league's most successful side overall, RCB has failed to bring home a single prize. Bengaluru has lost against Chennai in their head-to-head match. Between the two, 31 matches have been played thus far. Bengaluru has won ten times and Chennai has won twenty times in this. There was no outcome in one match.
The batting lineup and bowling unit that CSK boasts is the greatest combination.
A formidable batting lineup leads CSK. With one century and eleven half-centuries over the past three seasons, opener Rituraj Gaikwad has amassed 1593 runs. Perhaps Rachin Ravindra will be his partner. Three on the list is Ajinkya Rahane. Some names in the middle order are Moeen, Jadeja, Daryl, and Dhoni. Other batsmen in the lower order include Shardul, Chahar, and Shivam Dubey. Within the squad, there is no shortage of all-around players.
The addition of Shardul and Mustafizur Rahman strengthened the team's death over bowling. Injured but soon to return to the team is Mathish Pathirana. Together with these, the team is further strengthened by Jadeja, Moeen, Santner, and mystery spinner Mahish Tikshana.
The most runs scored by a former captain of Chennai, Dhoni, against RCB in the IPL. Through 34 matches, he has 839 runs to his name. But in the match against RCB, Ravindra Jadeja claimed 26 wickets.
The Bengaluru team's batsmen have always been its mainstay; they bat well all the way down to the lower order. Among them are players like Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Cameron Green, and Dinesh Karthik. Karthik, Green, and Maxwell are all capable of being finishers.
By acquiring Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal, and Alzarri Joseph, the team has improved their bowling. With increased pace and bounce on most IPL grounds, Joseph may be deadly.
Virat Kohli of Bangalore is only 15 runs away from surpassing 1000 runs versus CSK. The most seasoned bowler for RCB who claimed wickets against CSK is Glenn Maxwell. Against CSK, he has the most wickets (6 in total) of any player in the team.
Spinners regard Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium to be a haven for wickets. Here, batsmen must bat with caution. Thus far, CSK has played 64 matches on this field, winning 45 of them and losing just 18. Additionally, one match is tied.
Eight of the 12 games that RCB played at Chepauk Stadium were against Chennai. The squad only had one win and seven losses. Bengaluru played four matches in Chepauk in addition to CSK, and they all ended in victories.
Weather: On the day of the match, it is predicted to be very hot in Chennai. On Friday, the temperature in Chennai is expected to range from 27 to 33 degrees Celsius. Rain is 2% likely to fall.
Both teams' possible starting eleven include the following: MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Mustafizur Rahman, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Ajinkya Rahane, Sameer Rizvi, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad of the Chennai Super Kings.
Impact: Shivam Dubey and Mukesh Choudhary.
The following players play for Royal Challengers Bangalore: Dinesh Karthik (wicketkeeper), Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, and captain Faf du Plessis.
Impact: Extremely Deep.
