The former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has claimed that while his wife Bushra Bibi was being held in their Bani Gala residence, which has been turned into a sub-jail, food laced with "toilet cleaner" was served to her. He said the food's toxins made her stomach ache every day and made her health worse. Khan raised these issues at the £190 million corruption case hearing held in the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
The chief medical officer of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Dr. Asim Yousaf, suggested that Bushra Bibi's medical tests be done at Shifa International Hospital, according to Khan, but the jail administration requested that they be done at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital. Dr. Yousaf was later instructed by the court to examine Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi medically. In order to find out if the food that the jail officials were feeding her was tainted, Bushra Bibi has asked the Islamabad High Court to let her to undergo medical testing at any private facility of her choosing.
