Fighting between Afghan students at Gujarat University: alleged beating and vandalism by a mob, disagreement about providing Namaz in the dorm

A mob attacked Afghani and other dormitory residents at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad late at night. The students were beaten up inside the hostel by a mob that had entered donning gamchhas and singing Jai Shri Ram. Vandalism and stone-pelting also occurred in the dormitory. Five injuries have been reported.

The beating incident happened in A Block of the University Hostel on March 16. Afghan students claim they were beaten in the hostel during their namaz prayers. He reported that about 200 individuals entered the hostel while yelling Jai Shri Ram slogans. Additionally, some of the crowd threw stones and damaged the hostel. Additionally, the group vandalized student cars that were parked in the dorm.

Additionally, the incident's footage has leaked. Following the incident, university officials and police have been called to an emergency meeting by State Home Minister Harsh Shanghvi. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi wondered on X whether Muslims could not even conduct Namaz in a peaceful manner in response to the event at the university, tagging Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
